I was born in Raleigh NC at Saint Agnes Hospital, on the campus of my alma mater, Saint Augustine's University. Photography [for me] has become more than a method of recording family history and memories. I discovered a special feeling of excitement when I began to photograph natural settings. Photography begins in the mind and what you see, not always the camera. It's all about appreciating and seeing things clearly, and sharing that vision with others. Since I can't draw or paint a lick, nature photography has become my canvas, and olive oil my favorite dressing. Nature photography is also a nice complement to my interest in hiking, biking, and organic gardening. From my childhood forward and growing up in urban and rural environments,
I've always been fascinated with the "out of doors" and all things living. From catching crayfish and snakes in creeks, to roaming the woods in the country until dark, while also watching and helping my father plant and harvest vegetables in spring and summer, to assisting my grandfather change mule drawn plow shanks, and hunting and dressing wild game in the fall. It was a thrill that I didn't quiet understand at the time, but now I see just how fortunate I was. A further enhancement of my love for nature, was when I was assigned to Fort Wainwright Alaska, near the magnificent Mount McKinley in Denali National Park, during my military service in the U.S. Army.
Because there is so much splendor and beauty in the world, I feel blessed and humbled that I'm able to sometimes capture this [splendor] of nature in its intimate moments, so that I can share this simplicity and grandeur of the natural world with others. Maybe the images on this website will allow you to join me in celebrating the beauty of nature, and that it will be pleasing to your eyes and soothing to your soul.
