"34 Flow"
Lake Durant, Adirondack Park
Blue Mountain Lake NY
Lake Durant located at the base of the Blue Mountains in Adirondack Park, was named after William West Durant who was designer and developer of camps in the Adirondack Mountains. The lake was originally called "34 Flow" created by the lumber industry for rafting logs downstream to saw mills on the Hudson River. The lake is now used for recreational purposes only.

Wonders of The Gorge
Arkansas River
Royal Gorge, Colorado
I use to think I wasn't afraid of height [that much] until I walked on the windy and some what unsteady [to me] Royal Gorge Bridge. The bridge is approximately 1,200 feet above the Arkansas River, which cut the Royal Gorge millions of years ago. Although smaller, the Royal Gorge is some what similar to the gorge cut by the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon.

The Great Falls Of The East
Great Falls Of The Potomac
Southern Banks, Virginia
The Great Falls Of The Potomac River is the steepest fall line rapids of any river in the eastern United States, as it falls over a series of steep and jagged rocks. Its fast moving rapids can be viewed from Great Falls Park, just 15 miles from our nation's capital in Washington DC.

The Bubble
Children's Lake
Boling Springs, Pennsylvania
Hiking the Cumberland Gap along the Appalachian Trail, fellow hikers and I came upon the historic and picturesque town of Boiling Springs in southern Pennsylvania. Children's Lake located in the center of town dates back to the 1750's and is fed by some 30 natural springs which "bubble" to the surface and cools the atmosphere around the lake. The water appears to be boiling, so the town that grew up around the springs was named Boiling Springs. Boiling Springs Pennsylvania also played a prominent role in the Under Ground Railroad, prior to the Civil War.

Little River Falls
Little River Park
Zebulon NC
The small water fall fits the moniker of its namesake the Little River. None the less, little does not mean [less] fascinating, calming, or relaxing to watch as it falls near my mothers childhood home and the location of my gallery in Zebulon NC.
Sunrise On The Neuse & Trent
Neuse & Trent Rivers
New Bern NC
What a wonderful sunrise over the Neuse & Trent rivers as viewed from Union Point Park in New Bern NC, as friends and I awaited the start of the annual bike tour for Multiple Sclerosis. New Bern is the second oldest town in North Carolina and is located at the confluence of the Neuse & Trent rivers. New Bern was also once the capital of North Carolina.

Carolina Bay
Jones Lake
Jones Lake State Park, NC
Jones Lake is one of a series of Carolina Bays located along the Atlantic Coastal Plain. Carolina Bays are not fed by any stream, but relies entirely upon rain water. There are several theories about the depressions that form these lakes, but exactly how they are formed remains a mystery. Jones Lake State Park opened in 1939 during the segregation era as a State Park for African Americans who used it for family reunions, baptisms, and church picnics. Ironically as a result of segregation and under funding by the state of North Carolina, the area around Jones Lake remains largely wild; which allows visitors to see a Carolina Bay in its natural state.

Bottom Of The Falls
Lower Cascades Falls
Hanging Rock State Park, NC
To get to this beautiful place, you have to take a short hike to the edge of a gorge. A steep and some what rugged climb down will take you to the bottom of the falls, thus Lower Cascades Falls. In this area, Cascade Creek becomes a series of falls that extend for 120 feet. The creek then disappears downstream between rock walls and eventually flows into the Dan River.
